Bernad has been a part of the A/S chair since July 2025, starting as a doctoral student. His main project focuses on implementing socio-ecological transformation of the Swiss built environment on an urban scale. The project aims to provide insights into the impacts of the baukultur shifts from total replacement to soft densifications. His contributions to the project will be derived from material, technical, and ecological perspectives. Apart from the project, his main research interests surround the topics of sustainable urban energy planning, optimisation design problems, and interdisciplinary studies. He is also keen to explore translating research into public policy-making.

Bernad received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2019. After which, he worked as a structural engineer for Arup Hong Kong and Hewson Consulting Hong Kong. He joined ETH Zurich in September 2022 for his master’s degree in Integrated Building Systems. During his studies, he also worked as a student research assistant with the Urban Energy Systems Lab at Empa in 2024.
